Macatawa Bay Yacht Club  in Holland, Michigan hosted the 3rd VX One Great Lakes Championship on May 17 and 18 on Lake Michigan. Sailors enjoyed great sailing conditions on Saturday and Sunday and great social time at the Club.  We had 10 VX’s on the starting line, with sailors coming from Connecticut, Ohio, and Ontario to participate in this year’s Championship.  4 races were held on Saturday with winds coming out of the south ranging from 8-12 knots.  Racing concluded early Sunday afternoon after 2 races in steady breeze from the Southwest ranging from 12-15 knots.  MBYC’s Sam Padnos and Grant Goeman finished at the top of the pack with 7 points, followed by Ched Proctor, Jeff Eiber, and LJ Nykamp finishing 2nd with 10 points.  John Arendshorst and JP Del Solar Goldsmith rounded out the top three with 13 points.  We had fantastic racing conditions and race management.  Thanks again to all of the volunteers, Race Committee, and Yacht Club staff for making this a wonderful event.

Marcus and Andrew Eagan triumphed at the inaugural VX ONE North American Championship in Pensacola, Florida.  The Louisiana-based team beat out 15 others to earn the victory with 16 points over the nine races.  They notched all top three tallies, after dropping an 8 in race 6. Sean Fidler and Hayden Bennett claimed second place (23 points), and Skip Dieball and Jeff Eiber placed third (28 points). The Eagan team came into the event with just one weekend of VX ONE racing experience under their belts, but credited their dinghy background with their quick learning curve on the VX ONE.  “This is a very forgiving boat,” Marcus Eagan summarized.  “People of all ages, weights and gender can enjoy it.”  During the course of the regatta, competitors saw varying levels of wind, with 6-8 knots on Friday, 10-12 on Saturday and 14-16 at the start of Sunday, building to 18-20. “It was a blast downwind, very exciting and fun,” Eagan shared.  “It was wild coming off those waves, but very stable.  This is a fun Class!” David Reich earned the win in Sunday’s lone race, with Eagan and Jeff Jones following. The top 5 overall: Marcus Eagan and Andrew Eagan (16 points), Sean Fidler and Hayden Bennett (23), Skip Dieball and Jeff Eiber (28), David Guggenheim and Ched Proctor (30), and David Bolyard and Rod Favela (35).
