The self-tacking jib makes the VX pretty easy to single-hand, and there is a smaller mainsail available that would also help. If you're going to run the spinnaker downwind, then you'll probably want the optional mainsheet cleat as well.

Someone tall enough and strong enough to lift the mast could do it alone, but it's much easier with two.  I think Brian can do it, but I can't. The mast has to be lifted to vertical, then lifted up about 18 inches and set down into the partners.  At that point it will stand up by itself while you attach the shrouds.

Here's the link to the registration page:  http://www.regattanetwork.com/event/9368 for the SSS event, but as I recall we had a long-series registration for just the VX as well, and I only see one VX registered on the SSS page.

We learned last weekend that the best way to deal with the higher wind ranges was to go really, really fast and have lots and lots of fun doing it!

We knew the wind was up on Saturday, but I was still surprised when I looked up the Sarasota airport history on the NOAA site and it had observations of 25 with gusts to 30.  I've never had so much fun sailing in so much wind!

Tim, that priceline link wouldn't bring up the hotel listing for me.   What's the name and address?

VX One North American Championships – Hotel List

We have contacted 3 hotels in Pensacola – all are 5 minutes or less to PYC and all have housed sailors during various events at PYC. These 3 should give everyone a choice based on their budget. The Suburban Lodge was the choice for many during the 2010 Thistle Nationals. The Sole' Inn & Suites is situated directly downtown and is within a short walk to restaurants and nightlife. The Marriott is a very nice newer property also within walking distance to restaurants and offers a full breakfast.
