Title: Max pole extension
Post by: kpike on April 02, 2015, 12:17:09 PM
What is the desired length of the extended pole?  My currently setup is 70-1/2 inches which leaves 4" of poIe inside the scoop, picture attached.

I would look to lengthen your tack line (probably by just moving the knot) which would enable the pole to go out further. Another 2 inches should be achievable - so the launch lines comes out at 90 degrees from the block.

I have done that before.  What I noticed was the pole stops short and the kite tack was 3-4" from the end of the pole.   Is there a advantage in having a looser tack?

Only advantage to a looser tack line (and therefore looser luff) on the assy is for running deep - helps the assy rotate further to windward and clearer air. So possibly only really useful in subplaning conditions for better VMG I would think.

Good input
My North kite has leech lines.  I keep them loose.  Any reason to do something different?
