I' like many many others, I'm sure, was really fed up with the uncovered 3mm dyneema halyard - royal PITA to deal with in many respects - tangles like a bitch, tough to tie so it doesn't slip.

I replaced it with a 5 mm doublebraid that I stripped for the portion sitting in the mast when hoisted.  The core is 4 mm SK 99 Dyneema.  World of difference - the line doesn't tangle and it is so easy to cleat off when hoisted.  I also replaced the halyard shackle with a thimble with a sewn on soft shackle - works a charm.  I used the smalles thimble I could find and the total length of the unit is about the same as the shackle typically used.

VX One Discussions / Re: Class activity

Are you talking about the FB group VX ONE International Class Association?  That has 477 members, which does not indicate a closed group for owners - it will take a while before that number is reached.................

Is there some other group, which is only for members (owners and/or owners and other members)?

A class need to have some sort of forum where members can have dialogue - I thought this forum was it but it appears not.

Regattas and Events / Re: Charleston RW 2018

Good to know it was settled - but where is it written down.

I have learned in sailing to read NOR/SI's closely and just somebody telling me it has been settled is a bit too wishy-washy for me.  It would be a good idea to get the OA to put it in the NOR or an addendum to it.  Maybe the class could take contact with the OA???

Regattas and Events / Charleston RW 2018

I see that CRW is on the "schedule" for 2018.

Charleston is certainly a great party venue while the sailing is so-so - but I digress....

Anyway - has CRW been contacted to add a VX One addendum that makes it possible to comply with the NOR?  What I am referring to is the NOR requirements of minimum 3 crew per boat.  Having a class event at a venue that would only allow some of the VX One's (the ones sailing with 3) to compete is really not a good option.

Just wondering..............

VX One Discussions / Class activity
December 02, 2017, 09:31:03 PM
Hey guys and dolls,

I joined the class a little over a year ago and am stunned by the total lack of activity/communication in the class. Pretty disappointing really.

Is the class just completely made up of introverts, who fear any kind of dialogue?  Or is there some super secret subgroup that really likes to keep most other class members in the dark?  Or?, or?

What the hell is going on (or not)?

I think the VX is a great boat but without some sort of class activity it will never take off as a class and leading to a slow death - not what I and (I hope) you want to see.

So what can we do to get some juices flowing?

I would suggest starting with at least having a class forum where any and all activity get put on the table so every class member at least has a chance of getting informed about what is cooking.

Thoughts?

September 2-3 is the Labor Day Regatta.  There is a "V-fleet" in the regatta (VX's and V640's racing straight up) - there should be 3 VX's coming up from Solomons joining me and maybe Murph?? in the v-fleet.  Happy to share a few beverages when you are in town for 5oh worlds.

Cheers,

Initial rating on the Chesapeake is 99.  I have a letter in the PHRF Chesapeake regarding the rating, which is the same as a M24 and 3s/m faster than the V640.

I have assembled the measurements for the VX One as I applied for a PHRF rating (for some of the local beercan and fun races)

I have confirmed the numbers with Brian and thought I would post then here for everybody's use

Attached as an Excel file

See your point about angles - but this would only be for singlehanded sailing IMHO - for racing the cleat isn't needed.  It would be fine to have the ratchet block as the forward turning block at the (almost) boom end.

Thanks mate.  Do you also have lengths of Spin Halyard and Sheet?  what are ideal diameter?  1/4" or ?

Got my Vx in the fall but haven't sailed it yet.  Some of the lines (esp spin sheets and halyards) that came with the boat seem less than ideal (no tapers, loops just straight lines) and I would like to make up lines during the winter period.

Does anyone have a list of running rigging with dimensions and tapering lenghts that you are willing to share?  It would be great.

Thanks
