Even though I like the help of someone else, yes you can step the mast and rig the boat by yourself.

Brian Bennett can tell you step-by-step how he does it.

Hey Jay,

I will give you a hand on that. You basically want to pull your messenger line  from the spinnaker launcher and leave the other end tied to the mast partners.

As Dave mentioned, we keep it up to probably 5 knots of TWS but furl it right before a gybe; once the gybe is compelted, and the boat is set on the new course, we carefully unfurl it.
