VX One Discussions / Sea Dek & Saturday, October 30
October 20, 2021, 10:16:03 PM
Hello Scotty,

Hope all is well.   SeaDek is the way to go. Far more durable than Raptor Deck.  Ian Maccini can send you a kit. Super, super simple to put one.  Most difficult decision, by far, is you selecting your two colors. We all use two layers of 3mm. Your crew's knees  will be so fricking happy.  Ian Maccini & Hayden can ship to you. Will take less three hours, closer to two hours.    Hey, hey, Saturday, October 30 is one-day Fall Brawl. Have Dave Meiser sail w you.   Johhny Meiser has a Mac-daddy home just a tick up the severn river.

Nationally the fleet is rocking. Nearly 40 boats for winter circuit, 35 to 38 at May 1st Charleston.

The Atlas instrument by Vakaros.   For years we've known 'Distance to the starting line'. but now you can also have 'Time to line'. A big, big, big help in larger fleets.  Between buying & selling Vx's I ended up w two Atlas.

You can have for $400.  Updated software, capable of accepting future updates.

Greetings from Annapolis,

I have the only Vx on the Chesapeake Bay, so it's understandable some people decide on a Viper, particularly if they don't plan to travel to Sarasota, Charleston or Newport. But a friend knows the Vx is just a better boat. And he likes the fact of needing 160-ish less pounds of crew.

Approx how much does #135 weight?  Class minimum is near 565 pounds are you less than 585 pounds?

Thank you,
Paul Murphy

Used Boats, Sails, and Gear / Re: Looking for VX
November 27, 2020, 12:01:49 PM
Hello Chris,

Good to meet both of you last summer.   While I wasn't looking for it,  something smacked me in the face.  Sailing, Inc was clearing out their remaining two boats. Hull #310 & #311.   I traded-in #216 & Marty Kullman is putting it into a selective charter.  She's rented for Miami min-December but available for Sarasota, Charleston and (likely) Annapoolis NOOD.

Also I saw #124 is for sale cheap.  While prior to #150, it is true that the Bennett boats were lighter & lighter, closer to minium weight as they learned/refined layup of glass & resin.

Either way, #310 is at SSA & I'll be fiddling w/ her this weekend.

Good morning,

Is there a Vx available to charter for July 11-12?
Being mid-Summer, you'd think I'd be headed North, not South.

But a lifelong friend just moved to St. Pete & We'd like to sail together.

Thank you,
Paul Murphy

Hello all,

Between the two of us we've sailed Vx's in four Charleston Race weeks. Cedric won crewing for John Potter  in 2017.

We're looking to charter again for Charleston Race Week. We do not need sails, friends in the fleet can provide sails. If you'd like/need a new sail that certainly can be part of our charter fee.

We live in Annapolis. Severn Sailing Association recent granted Vx & Vipers approved One-design status. That will help grow local fleet.

I'm sailing some of the Sarasota Winter Series, perhaps we'll meet.

Thank you,

October 15, 2019, 12:40:32 PM
Hello all,

In an episode of pre-regatta confusion, I ended up buying a second Shift Compass.
Shift is great & combined w/ Speed Puck I have speed, COG and SOG.

Selling barely used Shift for $400, includes mounting bracket.

Sailing, Handling, Tips and Techniques / Wood screw
July 11, 2019, 03:46:51 PM
This year I've started breaking my mast into two pieces. Really easy, just remove a wood screw.
Primary reason I tried this is I didn't want my mast exposed when it was in storage & also trying to minimize damage when trailering.

Key point is: When folding mast in two, and when unfolding----make sure not to twist sections--otherwise halyards could twist. Similar to folding your forearm back towards your bicep.

It's nice to have mast safely tucked inside the cockpit & not exposed to potential clipping in a parking lot.

One of my best friends made a really stupid mistake 60 years ago. He was born August 17th. So of course surprise birthday party in Newport Beach, Ca the same weekend as Vx Newport regatta. Darn, really wanted to sail beautiful Newport again.

But lucky you. Race ready #216 is available for charter August 16-18. Includes good sails, SpeedPuck & Shift instruments.

Hello New England,

it's quite likely--(but not yet guaranteed) that #216 is available for charter this summer in Newport. #216 is well-maintained, latest upgrades, including SeaDek, shroud handles, double tapered spinnaker halyard, Speed Puck & Shift.

$3,500 includes a space w/in the Vx fleet--paved, not gravel lot & closest to the hoist.

Hello Vx fleet,  Another round of Vx clothing is now available. Store only open for a few weeks, aiming to deliver by June 1st.   Tech shirts are always great, the Fleece 1/4 zips--in Black or Royal Blue are great & just $39.  Keep your hardworking crew in mind when ordering.  Make sure to order the new Vx webbing belt.

We realize the navigation is a bit tricky/cumbersome, but that's what we have via Shopify.
